HOW TO GET THERE
LOCATION
The city of
Çanakkale is situated in the northwestern corner of Turkey, overlooking the
Dardanelles (or Çanakkale Straits) and is the capital of the province of the
same name. It lies equidistant from Istanbul and Izmir and has coastlines on the
Marmara and Aegean Seas.
HOW TO GET THERE
Çanakkale can be
reached by the frequent intercity bus services from Istanbul, Izmir and Bursa
and other surrounding cities. Overseas visitors generally fly to Istanbul and take a domestic flight from
Istanbul to Çanakkale, or take a coach from terminal (otogar) and make the
journey to Çanakkale in about five hours, finishing by taking the ferry across
the Straits from Eceabat. Alternatively, it is possible to take a fast ferryboat
from Yenikapi in Istanbul to Bandirma, and catch a bus from this town for the
two-hour drive along the coast. The nearest international airports are in
Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir. You can then transfer by intercity bus to
Çanakkale.

DRIVING TO ÇANAKKALE FROM ISTANBUL
From the airport, take the TEM motorway towards Edirne. At Silivri, exit the
motorway and follow signs for Tekirdag, which will bring you to the E25. Follow
the E25 to Kesan, then take the E24 towards Çanakkale/Gelibolu (Gallipoli).
Follow this road to Eceabat, where you can catch a car ferry directly to the
ferry landing in the centre of Çanakkale.

LOCAL TRANSPORT
Minibuses operate within the city and to and from the outlying districts and
other towns in the province of Çanakkale. Fares are fixed and usually displayed
on the front window of the minibuses.
TAXIS
Taxis can be found within the city and identified with their original
yellow colour. They operate using taxi-meters and the fare depends on the length
of your journey. They are naturally more expensive than minibuses, but foreign
visitors usually find the fares quite reasonable.

Ferries carry both passengers and cars across the Çanakkale Straits and
operate on the following routes:
